Knocking on Heaven's Door - Guitar Cover and Lesson

Hi Guys....Welcome to Guitar is Easy!

I am assuming, by now you are familiar enough with the basic guitar stuff to start of with songs. This is probably the most covered song ever. This song was originally performed by Bob Dylan. Over the years it has been covered by artists like Eric Clapton, Guns n Roses, it has appeared in movie soundtracks and so on. It is a very easy but very soulful song.

Chords used:

Am, G, Am7, D, C

Chords and Lyrics:

INTRO: G-D, C

G D Am7
Mama take this badge off of me
G D C
I can't use it any-more
G D Am7
It's getting dark, too dark for me to see
G D C (D)
I feel I'm knockin on heaven's door

CHORUS:
G D Am7
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
G D C (D)
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
G D Am7
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
G D C (D)
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door

G D Am7
Mama put my guns in the ground
G D C
I can't shoot them any-more
G D Am7
That long black cloud is coming down
G D C
I feel I'm knockin' on heaven's door

The same pattern follows while ending the song

This is probably one of the easiest songs to play on the guitar since doesn't require bar chords. Play hard and practice. Make sure you feel the flow of the song.

Chords used:
C, D, G

Chords and Lyrics:

      G C

I'm standing here out side your door.
  G Am D7
I hate to wake you up to say good bye.
        G C
But the dawn is breaking it early morn.
    G C
The taxi's waitin he's blownin his horn.
 G Am D7
Already I'm so lonesome I could die.

*Chorus:
   G C
So kiss me and smile for me.
 G C
Tell me that you'll wait for me.
G Am D7
Hold me like you'll never let me go.
          G C G
Cause I'm leavin on a jet plane.
                C G
Don't know when I'll be back again.
    Am D7
Oh, babe I hate to go.

There's so many times I've let you down
So many times I've played around
I tell you now, they don't mean a thing
Every place I go, I'll think of you
Every song I sing, I'll sing for you
When I come back, I'll bring your wedding ring

So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go
Cause I'm leavin' on a jet plane
Don't know when I'll be back again
Oh babe, I hate to go

Now the time has come to leave you
One more time let me kiss you
Close your eyes I'll be on my way
Dream about the days to come
When I won't have to leave alone
About the times, I won't have to say

So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go
Cause I'm leavin' on a jet plane
Don't know when I'll be back again
Oh baby, I hate to go

Cause I'm leavin' on a jet plane
Don't know when I'll be back again
Oh babe, I hate to go

Practice hard people. Remember practice makes perfect. Use these songs as way to practice and build up to the harder songs.

DDLJ Theme - Guitar Cover and Lesson

Welcome to another post from Guitar is Easy!

I welcome all the romantics to this post. I just have to share this with all fellow guitarist with obvious intentions. This tune resonates with a generation of the indian population. This tune sparks the romance in the air. It is the theme from DDLJ (Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge) starring Sharukh Khan and Kajol. Probably the only picture of SRK's I like.

Just follow the video to catch follow and learn the tune.

Practice this with the scales lessons provided in the first post. It would add some variety to your learning graph.

All Along the Watch Tower - Guitar Cover and Lesson

Welcome to Guitar is Easy!

I am posting this cover of All Along the Watchtower as I love it. It is combination of Dave Mathews band's vocals and the Pace of Bob Dylan. This song was also performed by the Bob Dylan but has been covered by many artists over time. This is undoubtedly one of the coolest songs ever.

chords used:

Am, G, F

Chords and Lyrics:

Am G F
There must be some kind of way out of here
    Am G F
Said the joker to the thief
    Am G F
There's too much confusion
    Am G F
I can't get no relief
    Am G F
Business men they drink my wine
    Am G F
Plowmen dig my earth
    Am G F
No one would ever compromise
    Am G F
No one of this world

The same pattern of the chords continues for the remainder of the song...

No reason to get excited
The thief he kindly spoke
There are many here among us
Who feel that life is but a joke
But you and I we've been through that
And this is not our place
So let us stop talking falsely now
The hour's getting late

All along the watchtower
Princes kept the view
While all the women came and went
Barefoot servants too
Outside in the cold distance
A wildcat did growl
Two riders were approaching
And the wind began to howl

All along the watchtower

All along the watchtower

All along the watchtower

If this song doesn't get you to start riffing on the Am scale, nothing will. This is a must for any guitarist.

Absolute Beginner Guitar Lesson - 2 (Chords)

Welcome to Guitar is Easy.

This post is focussed at getting all guys familiar with the various basic chords you would need to play almost any song ever written. It is important that you go through all these videos and learn how to play chords. All chords from major to minors are covered in the videos below.

Here at Guitar is Easy, you are recommended to practice all these chords in the progression pattern with a simple rhythym or strumming pattern you are comfortable with. It is crucial that you get your strumming hand relaxed. Unless your strumming hand is relaxed you wont be able to pick up most strumming patterns.

This is last video here is for the pentatonic scale. I have showed how to play this on the Am  scale, but this can be taken for any note and even across the fretboard. Watch carefully and practice hard. Without mastering the scales you can never hope to be even a descent guitar player.

Happy Riffing playas!

cheers!

Welcome Fellow Guitarists!

The sole purpose of this blog - Guitar is Easy, is to share my knowledge with all the people in the world who want to learn how to play the guitar. We all have our reasons. Some of want to impress girls, some of us love music and some like me have just been so impressed by the "Guitar Gods", we just didn't have a choice in picking up the guitar. I am not biased to any genre (Hindi, English, Rock, Classic Rock etc). I just love music, thus

"Any Song worth Listening to is worth playing as well"

My instructions in these posts is hardly conventional but I believe it has to be slightly unstructured to put the key points across without confusing novice students with the technical jargon.

the post provide chords along with video instructions of some of the popular songs, so that you learn quickly and stay motivated to learn as much as you can.
